366 Squadron RAF - Video Test of Quick Edits and Music

Part of the ongoing Bastogne Video Project

This is another little test video. In this one I try out 3 ideas.

  1. a nice little Ident Musical thingy with my "a Zoe Connolly production" motion graphic.
  2. some quick 1 second edits at the start of the video.
  3. some epic sounding music.

Advantages of quick 1 to 5 second edits
  1. It's easier to hide lower SL Video Capture frame rates.
  2. It better emulates modern movie and television editing practices.
  3. You can tell the same story in less time.
  4. Shorter videos retain more viewers.

366 Squadron RAF: Mission 1

We arrived at 0800 for our final briefing.

After parachuting behind enemy lines, the squad formed up, and proceeding toward town.

Fortunately, or unfortunately when you also have a blog going, there was so much action that I couldn't get any pics again until the mission was completed. Our agent was extracted safety and the V1 rocket was destroyed. Plus, we all had a blast doing it!

From left to right:. Sin Trenton, Wendy Charisma (our agent at SS HQ), Foxy Heart, Cornelius Fanshaw, and me.

We invited Axis Team regular Elein Snowpaw to join us as he was our adversary during Mission 1, and a good sport about the whole thing. He also serves a dual role as one of the sim admins so he was delighted to see an organized team of Allies fight today.

We did one major thing wrong and zigged instead of zagged, sending most of the team in the wrong direction for 10 or 15 minutes. But hey, it still worked. The diversion gave me the chance to destroy the V1. If we had two or 3 more people on our squad, I'd have a chance for more photos. But it was all great fun and I'm so happy I got to participate!

I suppose you're wondering why you're all here...

An odd place for a meeting, but it worked.

Test Run of a Secret Mission for 366 Sqn RAF

I did a test run for a combination rescue and sabotage mission in the New Bastogne Combat Regions in SL. I wanted to get an idea what roads to take, plus figure out how many bombs it would take to destroy the German V1 Rocket.

I'm disguised as a German Officer which is probably in violation of the sim rules, but hey... my team is there for a different reason. We're not there to rack up kills like the others. We're there to achieve mission objectives that don't involve them at all...

Take that, Adolf!

More about Bastogne soon...

Remember my posts about New Bastogne last year? A few of them were even featured in New World Notes. My usual roleplaying team (from RCAF, TimeForce 10, Amazon Air, etc.) will be working on our next project that combines piloting, spying, sabotage and assorted combat and rescue missions.

What's in store for us? It could be THIS target...

 It's all very hush hush.

SL GROUP: The Men and Women from U.N.C.L.E.

A few years ago I created the group "The Men and Women from U.N.C.L.E."

It's been inactive, but I'm hoping it will get some visibility, new members, and renewed vigor from interest in the upcoming "Man from U.N.C.L.E." movie coming this summer.

If anyone is interested in building U.N.C.L.E. HQ and other props inworld for the Men and Women from U.N.C.L.E. group, please let me know. I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to get it going by the time the movie is released.

In the Third Teaser for the Second Season of TimeForce 10, we introduce Audra Brash. Attractive, Young, Energetic, and Brilliant... We see TimeForce 10 through Audra's eyes as a new "point of view" character.

Will she be able to handle the office politics between Zoe Connolly and Erika Drake?

And will she cope with the turf battles between the White House, The Department of Defense, and TimeForce 10.

Fanshaw & Connolly

My good friend Mr Cornelius Fanshaw and I decided to start another little adventure series in Second Life.

You may consider it... a sort-of...hmmm, well it's a Victorian version of The Avengers. Like our TimeForce 10 Adventure Series, Fanshaw and Connolly is a mashup of several different television shows such as The Avengers and Wild Wild West with a healthy dollop of Sherlock Holmes.

Cornelius put together a great set for a few of our SL Group Photos. As you can see from my examples, the major influence is The Avengers. I've included two YouTube Videos for reference.

Fanshaw and Connolly is a New Babbage firm established to conduct unusual inquiries and investigations for a variety of clients. I'm sure there will be many crossover adventures with TimeForce 10 and the Royal Caledon Air Force.

The List

It was a bright new day with a new purpose.

Following a long absence, Zoe Connolly returned to Professor Fanshaw's secret laboratory and consulted with the residing computational device. A very chatty machine, indeed.

Computer: "Miss Connolly, so good to see you! You look quite fetching today."

Zoe smirked "You always were a charming sort."

Computer: "Have you returned to us, Miss?"

Zoe smiled brightly "Indeed I have, and without further distractions."

Computer: "Oh that's ripping news, Miss Connolly! The others will be so pleased, I'm sure of it. Shall I give you the latest status report?"

Zoe: "Yes, please proceed."

Computer: "My report is not at all good, Miss. Your return is most fortunate for us all"

Zoe tilted her head and frowned. She listened to a long list of unusual and distressing natural and man-made phenomena not known to the general population. Zoe sighed and made a list of agents, their skills and outlined mission goals. She whispered to herself "Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more."

After completing the list, the computer paused for a moment.

Then it said: "It is time to save the world again, Miss Connolly."

No One Lives Forever - The Adventures of Cate Archer

Forgotten Games: No One Lives Forever

Cate Archer (a mix of Modesty Blaise and Emma Peel) is the heroine in the game No One Lives Forever

Quoting a YouTuber: "From the makers of F.E.A.R. No One Lives Forever may sound like a cheesy title but its not. Its a really, really ...really good game! You play Cate Archer, operative and super-spy who needs to stop the plans of H.A.R.M. of total world domination.

No One Lives Forever got really good scores and was hailed as: The best thing in gaming since Half-Life. Unfortunately, the game didn't sell okay. A sequel was made which was okay but the prequel, Contract Jack was horrible. After Contract Jack, publisher Sierra pulled the plug."

Thanks to my good friend Cornelius Fanshaw for sending the links ;)

Pop Culture Influences on the Character of Zoe Connolly - The Avengers Revisited

In previous posts I've mentioned fictional influences for the character of Zoe Connolly in Part 1 and Part 2, but I'll also touch on more general Pop Culture. Here is a BBC documentary about The Avengers found on YouTube. Unfortunately the audio track is rarely in sync with the video.

The Avengers is one of many Pop Culture Influences on Zoe Connolly. What are your influences and how do they manifest in the virtual world of Second Life?

Influences for the character of Zoe Connolly (Part 2)

In my previous post The Fictional Influences for the character of Zoe Connolly (Part 1), I introduced Diana Rigg as one of many action heroine influences for my portrayal in Second Life.

In this post I feature the always beautiful Raquel Welch as skydiving super-spy Fathom and as Elle mentioned in her own post, Sophia Loren....

Sugar and Spice: Raquel Welch Is Fathom-tastic!

Raquel Welch and Sophia Loren are two more women with influence on my avatars appearance as Zoe Connolly. What are your influences and how do they manifest in the virtual world of Second Life?

from RCAF Intelligence.... - Royal Caledon Air Force

from RCAF Intelligence.... - Royal Caledon Air Force

A new enemy to our dear Caledon homeland is expected near our southern border within the week. The nefarious government of New Brunswick has formed and will no doubt be sending reconnaissance teams to document military strength and the fighting will of the good people of Caledon.

Be ever diligent, watchful and remember to increase patrols along the southern border as well as check for suspicious "persons of interest" in RCAF Airfields and other sensitive facilities.
