SL Group: A Message to RCAF and Future Plans

Group Notice From: (RCAF) Royal Caledon Air Force, Zoe Connolly

I want to thank everyone who attended last Saturdays great event. We had loads of positive feedback and the folks at Dogs On The Run were delighted. Trinka Adored and DA Admiral from DOR were very happy with the turnout and so was I! -- a total of 16 people showed up from across the SL aviation community!

Cornelius Fanshaw and I are already busy with plans for the near future. Combat and commercial SL Aviation is thriving. In addition to Blake Sea, there are new sims available for flying and sailing - and great builders are releasing aircraft at a regular rate.

For those of us who want more out of Second Life than just fashion and sex, the adventures await!

(Pictured Below) Cornelius and I chat about our new RCAF WW2 Group called 401 Squadron RCAF. We fly WW2 adventures as Royal Canadian Air Force, instead of the steampunk Victorian version Royal Caledon Air Force. We were joined by authentic Canadian Barry Foehammer.

New SL Aviation Group: 401 Squadron RCAF

Description: Originally No.1 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, the squadron arrived in Britain in 1940 where it took part in the Battle of Britain, flying Hawker Hurricanes.

In 1941 was renamed No. 401 Squadron and reequipped with Spitfires which it continued to use throughout the rest of the war.

It was one of the first squadrons to operate from French soil after D-Day and also the first Commonwealth squadron to shoot down an Me262. It was credited with shooting down 186 1/2 enemy aircraft during WWII.

As you can see from the pics below, we'll also have an air vs sea element too.

NEW SL Group for Aviation Roleplayers

SKYWAY COURIERS

At SKYWAY, we take your antiquities, treasures, and mysterious glowing objects VERY seriously. Rest assured (client name/future plaintiff), when we make any precarious package pickup, fast frantic flight, and daringly dangerous delivery, we make every effort to keep collateral damage to a bare minimum. Honest!

Our motto: "It's done, mistakes were made, cash only"

Available Roles

SKYWAY PILOT: You're the owner operator of an airplane, seaplane, or helicopter. You might be an Intrepid heroic Bush Pilot or an Unscrupulous Jaded Profiteer.

TROUBLED CLIENT: You're not sure you should step into that plane. The pilot seems a little crazy and hits the sauce a little too much, but you narrowly escaped those two brutish but well-dressed men and you need to get to your Uncle Leon's remote cabin and lay low for a while. Not to mention this mysterious glowing object is getting a little too warm.

CLIENT CHASING VILLAINS, OBJECT CHASING VILLAINS: Thugs and mad-scientists are welcome in this role category.

THE SUSPICIOUS AGENT or LAW OFFICER: You've been on the trail of the mysterious glowing object for months now. If you can recover it soon, you'll really make a name for yourself at (anytown police dept / teh soopah seekrit service)

Play it for comedy, play it serious.

I'm looking for fellow role-players and someone to create a group logo and various MacGuffins.

SL GROUP: The Men and Women from U.N.C.L.E.

A few years ago I created the group "The Men and Women from U.N.C.L.E."

It's been inactive, but I'm hoping it will get some visibility, new members, and renewed vigor from interest in the upcoming "Man from U.N.C.L.E." movie coming this summer.

If anyone is interested in building U.N.C.L.E. HQ and other props inworld for the Men and Women from U.N.C.L.E. group, please let me know. I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to get it going by the time the movie is released.

The New Adventures of Zoe Connolly

I arrived home late Saturday evening. A little bit tired, but still feeling the pleasant buzz from several glasses of wine and delightful dances.

The perfect night on the town before my little trek. I really need this vacation and I'm going to make the most of it.

Of course, having a time machine is the only way to travel. Everything else is secondary.

One more night's sleep and my new adventure begins!

The List

It was a bright new day with a new purpose.

Following a long absence, Zoe Connolly returned to Professor Fanshaw's secret laboratory and consulted with the residing computational device. A very chatty machine, indeed.

Computer: "Miss Connolly, so good to see you! You look quite fetching today."

Zoe smirked "You always were a charming sort."

Computer: "Have you returned to us, Miss?"

Zoe smiled brightly "Indeed I have, and without further distractions."

Computer: "Oh that's ripping news, Miss Connolly! The others will be so pleased, I'm sure of it. Shall I give you the latest status report?"

Zoe: "Yes, please proceed."

Computer: "My report is not at all good, Miss. Your return is most fortunate for us all"

Zoe tilted her head and frowned. She listened to a long list of unusual and distressing natural and man-made phenomena not known to the general population. Zoe sighed and made a list of agents, their skills and outlined mission goals. She whispered to herself "Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more."

After completing the list, the computer paused for a moment.

Then it said: "It is time to save the world again, Miss Connolly."

Pop Culture Influences on the Character of Zoe Connolly - Lara Croft

In previous posts I've mentioned fictional influences for the character of Zoe Connolly in Part 1, Part 2, and Pop Culture Influences like The Avengers.

In this post I feature another Pop Culture icon. The first major Virtual Girl with Guns Lara Croft, with bonus views of Angelina Jolie as Lara....

Lara may be a very attractive action heroine, but her most important quality to me is her personality. Here's a quote from Wikipedia on Lara Croft:
"....Lara is consistently depicted as a highly confident, independent, and headstrong person. She is also very brave, rarely showing any sign of fear in very dangerous or lethal situations...."
Her virtual action heroine lineage may be traced back to Honor Blackman and Diana Rigg from The Avengers.

Below is an interesting documentary from the Discovery Channel via Google Video about the origins, game design, obsessions, and world wide media phenomenon of Lara Croft. I noted many parallels between Lara Croft Game obsession and obsessive behavior over Second Life.

Question for Second Life residents: Is your time and energy in SL replacing what you could and should be doing in RL?

Disclaimer: Although I've enjoyed the Lara Croft movies I've never played nor do I have an interest in a Lara Croft game. Before Second Life, the most gaming I ever did involved The Sims and various versions of Monopoly and Poker. Although I continue to indulge in the virtual world of Second Life and have added a new habit with flight simulators, Lara Croft Games are not on my radar. But there's no denying the Lara influence on some of my thinking. For me, she is the modern-day Emma Peel.

What are your influences and how do they manifest in the virtual world of Second Life?

Look for more "State Your Influence" posts on Monday June 22nd.

from RCAF Intelligence.... - Royal Caledon Air Force

from RCAF Intelligence.... - Royal Caledon Air Force

A new enemy to our dear Caledon homeland is expected near our southern border within the week. The nefarious government of New Brunswick has formed and will no doubt be sending reconnaissance teams to document military strength and the fighting will of the good people of Caledon.

Be ever diligent, watchful and remember to increase patrols along the southern border as well as check for suspicious "persons of interest" in RCAF Airfields and other sensitive facilities.

Steampunk Explorer? No surprise here....

Thanks to Elle for this little diversion....

Your result for The Steampunk Style Test...

The Explorer

You are the Explorer, the embodiment of steampunk’s adventuring spirit. For you, clothing should be rugged and reliable, and just as functional as it is attractive. You probably prefer khaki or leather, and your accessories are as likely to include weapons as technological gizmos. You probably wear boots and gloves, and maybe a pith helmet. Most of what you wear is functional, and if you happen to wear goggles people had better believe that you use them. In addition to Victorian exploration gear, your outfit probably includes little knickknacks from your various travels. Above all, you are a charming blend of rugged Victorian daring and exotic curiosity.
