A film by Peculiar Pictures
Description taken from their website:
A story of outstanding heroism in the face of deception, subterfuge and treachery. Conjuring up the belief that it was made forty years before film was even invented, 1884: Yesterday’s Future tells of a future that might have been but never was. Directed by Tim Ollive, the film is a mix of animation, puppetry and two dimensional and three dimensional computer generated imagery (CGI) set against backgrounds created using stunning artwork, model sets and period photographs from the Hulton Picture Library division of Getty Images. Combine these idiosyncratic production techniques with a script of mind boggling ingenuity and you have a hilarious comedy film the like of which you will not have seen before. So, put your tongue firmly in your cheek, stiffen your upper lip and prepare to be shaken and stirred by 1884: Yesterday’s Future.

2nd Annual Mad Scientist Convention
On the Royal Caledon Air Force watchlist....
"Caledon Steam SkyCity is proud to present the SSC 2nd Annual Mad Scientist Convention - SSC ReAnimated
May 2nd, 2009; 3pm and 5pm SLT
Has your research turned to archaic subjects?
Do your formulae come from ancient tomes as much as from modern journals?
Are you meddling in things Man was not meant to know?
From Frankenstein to Tesla, and from Flamel to Herbert West, some scientists cannot leave well enough alone.
Join us on Saturday, May 2nd at 3pm for the Speed Building Contest, Avatar contest entries must be received by 4pm with winners announced during the Mad Scientist's ReAnimation Ball starting at 5pm. There will be two build contests with a grand prize in each category and a dance in the evening.
*Unnatural Creation Avatar - Building starts now, with judging on the day of the convention. Create an avatar from scratch. Is it a murderous robot? A living Construct? Did you summon Cthulhu from a test tube? Let your imagination run wild, and show us that science really can "open strange doors." Avatars will be judged on creativity, quality, and fit with the theme. No parts from other avatars - must be wholly your own creation. Judging between 3pm and 4pm SLT.
*Speed build- one hour, theme related to "weird science practices" will be announced at the start of the contest. Building starts at 3pm, and stops at 4pm. Judging will be based on quality, originality, and how well it fits with the announced theme.
Do not let the narrow-minded views of fools and stagnant academics hinder you. This is Science!"

Be it for inspiration or admiration, returning to the purest form the genre (and turning away from other unsavory political issues in the SL Steampunk world), I am displaying some of the more recent entries in Deviant art, a hotbed for new and emerging artists.

Aether Chronicles: Airship Tours Begin in Caledon

"....A new addition has been added to the Connolly Aerodrome in Caledon Penzance. Hovering above the airfield is a new blimp very similar to the one that has been there since my coming to Caledon. The difference? This new airship owned by Virrginia Tombola now provides air service from Connolly Aerodrome to Lionsgate Tower and back...."

Aether Chronicles: A Guide To Caledon's Airfields Part 4
Aether Inglewood recently wrote part 4 in her Guide to Caledon Airfields series....
Aether Chronicles: A Guide To Caledon's Airfields Part 4

"....Caledon Downs Airfield
Caledon Downs might very well be Caledon's prettiest airfield. Located as the name would suggest in Caledon Downs it's set in a rual, park like atmosphere, surrounded by trees and beautifully landscaped. Owned and operated by Bubba Daniels this is a lovely little landing spot. (as always be sure to click the photos for a better view)
Airfield Layout and Approach
Caledon Downs Airfield sits on the Northeastern edge of Caledon Downs and can be located by a revolving green and white beacon set on a hill just to the north of the runway. The Southern end of the landing strip is located at Caledon Downs 145,131,44, with a North/South layout...."

Steampunk Explorer? No surprise here....
Thanks to Elle for this little diversion....
Try our other Steampunk test here.
Your result for The Steampunk Style Test...
The Explorer
You are the Explorer, the embodiment of steampunk’s adventuring spirit. For you, clothing should be rugged and reliable, and just as functional as it is attractive. You probably prefer khaki or leather, and your accessories are as likely to include weapons as technological gizmos. You probably wear boots and gloves, and maybe a pith helmet. Most of what you wear is functional, and if you happen to wear goggles people had better believe that you use them. In addition to Victorian exploration gear, your outfit probably includes little knickknacks from your various travels. Above all, you are a charming blend of rugged Victorian daring and exotic curiosity.

Otto Lilienthal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In a recent comment, Bela included a quote from Otto Lilienthal. For any aviation enthusiast or student of Victorian history, his biography is worth a look....
Otto Lilienthal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Otto Lilienthal (born 23 May 1848 in Anklam, Province of Pomerania – died 10 August 1896 in Berlin) was a pioneer of human aviation who became known as the German "Glider King". He was the first person to make repeated successful gliding flights. He followed an experimental approach first established earlier in the century by Sir George Cayley. Newspapers and magazines in many countries published photographs of Lilienthal gliding, favorably influencing public and scientific opinion about the possibility of flying machines becoming practical reality after ages of idle fantasy and unscientific tinkering.

"To invent an airplane is nothing. To build one is something. But to fly is everything."A quote from Wilbur Wright....
—Lilienthal
"Of all the men who attacked the flying problem in the 19th century, Otto Lilienthal was easily the most important. ... It is true that attempts at gliding had been made hundreds of years before him, and that in the nineteenth century, Cayley, Spencer, Wenham, Mouillard, and many others were reported to have made feeble attempts to glide, but their failures were so complete that nothing of value resulted."

Airliner crashes into Caledon Penzance Building!
(Caledon Penzance) At 2:30 PM SL Time on SLunday April 13, this reporter witnessed a most harrowing sight. A Jet Airplane crashed into several buildings in Caledon Penzance. Was it pilot error or SL Havok 4 mishap? We may never know for certain. The unknown pilot was last seen disembarking his plane and promptly disappeared into the aether, leaving his wreckage behind - and perhaps even his pride - nested in the side of a Penzance shop....
