"Avoid the Voids" - The Void Sim Creativity Tax Act of 2008

Vint Falken's Openspace Sim Roundup Report

back to the post....

The Lindenomics Spin Machine

I opened Google Reader and read Tateru Nino's article on Massively. She highlights Jack Lindens response to the Openspace sims furor.

Jack implies that the type of usage is a more important factor in the pricing changes than the actual cost of usage, though to be fair, it's an ambiguous pair of sentences, 'We are saying that the use has changed, and continues to do so as people find more creative ways to use them. So the revised pricing is about recognising that change of use and the additional costs and value associated with it.'

The Void Sim Creativity Tax Act of 2008

So....no mention of some people abusing the original intent of the Void Sims.

Now LL recognizes your creative use of them...and taxes it.

See? It's all good!

The greatest BDSM Master/Mistress roleplayers in SL are the folks at LL, and we're merely their submissives.

I wonder how many others feel the same way.... - New Toulouse

"....In a comment to Rudolfo Woodget's post, I wrote:

"I'll give 5 or 6 cheers for Mama Cree! I'm having so much fun I'm rethinking some of my land-rights choices on other sims. I may scale back here and there to free up dollars for more land-rights in future Taloo sims.

That says an awful lot for this steampunk girl."

Images from BSG47 aboard Battlestar Pacifica...Part 2

At the BSG47 sim in Second Life you can be a Cylon, a Civilian in the Colonial Fleet, or have a position in the Colonial Military. If you love Battlestar Galactica, you'll love Battlestar Pacifica.

Zabrina McMahon......Cylon!

Is she a Cylon or a human sympathizer? I really cannot say...

I've come to realize...I don't know my sister at all. I fear there is no turning back for her....and one day I shall face her in battle where I must destroy her, or she will surely destroy the world!

In the early hours....

I was making Grand Opening preparations to my home in Antiquity Cove, when I noticed a fellow in a boat. It was the esteemed Mr. Sin Trenton whom I've met a few times in Caledon. We had a lovely chat about Antiquity, Caledon, and matters of steampunkery.

When I returned to my lighthouse in Regency I immediately went to work, continuing my project to make it a pleasant public venue for my fellow Caledonians.

My sweetheart , Tiana Meriman... to my rescue

I had previously made the embarrassing error of "taking" an entire section of my lighthouse whilst attempting to remove an invisible prim from my land. Ack! I never did get the alignment correct after that. I called on my sweet lady and architect/builder Tiana Meriman, who promptly fixed that issue as well as a window problem. Here we flirt in IM following repairs.

With Tiana in mind, I purchased a new item for The Connolly Lighthouse Cafe area. I bought a new romantic dinner table and chair set and can't wait to try it with her. It will also be available for my fellow Regency residents as well as the rest of Caledon to enjoy with your own sweetheart. I'll be mixing and matching items, so please let me know what items you favour and I shall concentrate on what is most enjoyed by my fellow citizens.

I'm also looking for nautical themed photographs and paintings to use in the lighthouse, If you know of a place that sells such items, please let me know.

2 ideas for SL sims...

1) I'm thinking of a whole themed-sim based on an alternate history steampunk World War 1 - full of allied and enemy soldiers, sailors, spies, and revolutionaries. In this sim - or perhaps several sims, I would roleplay a MataHari-type world war one spy and club owner. The club would be near the central hub where many character paths and stories would cross and interact. There would be cites, battlefields, treaties made and broken, alliances and enemies, as well as plans for the Russian Revolution.

2) My second idea came to me while I wandered Barnes & Noble. I found several books on the American Civil War and thought this may be a fascinating project for a sim as it overlapped with many elements within the SL 19th Century life. I could see this developing into several sims as well. Perhaps having 2 sims for Washington and Richmond as well as a sim or two for various battlefields.

Any thoughts on these ideas?

Caledon Regency :: Our Guv'nah hard at work

I've been so curious about Regency it's been rather difficult to stay away, even before the completion of the terraforming.

This morning was my 3rd visit, and the first time seeing others in the sim.

Well, it was soon after my latest visit, and in a most polite and congenial way, our dear Desmond Shang declared Regency off limits! Pouting, I returned to nearby Eyre, pondering a purchase of Miss Tombola's carriages and horses. My mind drifted to visions of my lighthouse.

I sighed, and snapped back to reality with the reading of several telegrams and letters, after responding to most, I went off to bed, hoping for more sweet dreams of my new residence.

Spinning plates while balancing on a fence...

I try to balance RL, SL, and my blogs that cover SL. This kind of multi-tasking is taking a toll on my health, so I'm taking steps to find more balance in my life.

Part of the day Saturday and all day Sunday is devoted to SL. I'm inworld most of the time - internet connectivity permitting of course.

My blogs have evolved since I started SL blogging in March 2007. My focus now is the 19th Century world within our virtual world of SL. I cannot cover everything in SL, nor would I want to. My focus will be on the Victorian era steampunk and Wild West sims, almost exclusively. Two of my blogs no longer exist, so please update your links if you haven't noticed yet - Second Life Events and ZoeCorp ZabrinaWorks are deleted.

In addition, I'll be working on my Second Life BloggerCon 2008 event. I'll need one or two people to become co-owner(s) of my Second Life Bloggers group and assist with day-to-day maintenance and operations so that I may devote more time to other projects.

I'll have details on the SL Bloggers Logo Contest in a post this Saturday. The winner of the contest will receive 5000 linden dollars.

That's all for now, xoxox

Steam Robots vs Electric Robots :: Steampunk Cylons?

"It is the Age of Steam. An inventor envisions a future where robots are driven by electricity. Tragically, war prevents him from realizing his vision. In the aftermath of the war, his faithful steam-powered servant labors to bring the vision to life against opposition determined to preserve the reign of steam at all costs..."

A curtsy to Hotspur O'toole for linking to this YouTube video.

Torley composed the music for the video.

The Caledon Regency Map

The opening of a new Caledon sim is always exciting and welcome news.

I've been checking Guvnah Desmond Chang's mansion in Victoria City a few times a week for signs of the impending delivery of the new Regency Sim. I was pleased to discover this new map of Caledon Regency during my most recent wanderings earleir today. Ooooooo!

The Tombstone Sun-Review: Apache Chief Dagger Barbosa and his tribe

The Tombstone Sun-Review: Apache Chief Dagger Barbosa and his tribe:

"On July 12th, I met with Apache Chief Dagger Barbosa, Medicine Woman Adelita Hera, and tribal warrior mAdan Payne. They were very cordial and welcomed me with open arms, even though at times it seemed there was tension. I am after all a white woman protecting my town, and they see Tombstone and the local government as a threat to their existence. Tensions are natural in these circumstances. How we can ever over come our prejudices I do not know, and this article and writer won't pretend to know the answer..."
