SL Groups: RCAF Steampunk and RCAF WW2

The Royal Caledon Air Force is now officially split into two distinct groups.

RCAF - Royal Caledon Air Force is our Steampunk Military RP group and sometimes dabbles in WW1 era dogfights. This is the one I started in Caledon back in 2007. Our original motto was "Altitude with Attitude" and we're going back to that adventurous fun. Eventually, it grew beyond Caledon to protect the larger Steampunk Community.

Times Changed - Following a series of budget cuts and the loss of its headquarters, RCAF "went rogue" - concerned with its own interests first, the interests of Steamland governments a secondary concern. The rebooted and re-imagined RCAF is Caledon in name only, a mere hat tip to its origins.

Part heroic, part anti-heroic, the rebooted RCAF is steampunk swagger on land, sea, and of course - in the air. We are an independent force, without ties to Caledon or any Nation. In public Steamland leaders curse us, while in private offices, we're praised - often called upon by governments to do their dirty work - It's all very hush hush, you know.

The style we often use in the steampunk version of RCAF

Meanwhile, 401 Squadron RCAF is our WW2 Military RP group. We changed the word Caledon to Canadian in THIS version of RCAF. Our mission: Destroy the Nazi War Machine.

In 401 Sqdrn RCAF, we'll stage or participate in dogfights and other battles within the Dogs On The Run and New Bastogne Occupied France regions. We will fight with the Allies on land and in the air. We'll also have a military presence in Jeogeot Gulf and do non-combat flyovers across Blake Sea.

Come join us in one or both groups and fly for fun and adventure!

SL Group: Skyway Couriers, items needed for roleplay

Group Notice From: SKYWAY COURIERS, Zoe Connolly

Coming soon. A little roleplay where I will play the part of the passenger with the mysterious item.

What we'll need for the next and future RPs is a McGuffin. An item that drives our plot. All items should be transferable so we can pass it to each other.

List of items needed for roleplay:

  1. Briefcase
  2. Briefcase full of money
  3. Briefcase with top secret files
  4. Faberge Egg to grasp in a hand or display on a table
  5. Trunk or box
  6. Trunk or box with money
  7. Trunk or box with glowing object.
  8. Glowing object to grasp in a hand or display on a table.
  9. Or your own idea

We could also use a really awesome logo we can use inworld for our planes, etc and also serve as the SL Group logo.

Thanks!

SL Group for Aviation Roleplayers: SLHPA (helicopter pilots of SL)

SLHPA isn't a new group, I've had it for a year or two now, so following some real life family and family business stuff, I've dramatically increasing my SL presence and I'm able to fly again (Thanks to SLGo by OnLive).

I'll be promoting this and other groups as much as possible. What can I say? I'm an event planner. Plus SL brings out my inner-tomboy-ish heart (it's a good thing I have two sons - who are fully immersed in Minecraft - I'm sure many of you can relate).

From the Group description

SLHPA = Second Life Helicopter Pilots Association
A group for helicopter aficionados, builders, and pilots.

At SLHPA, we LOVE helicopters!

Look for announcements about new releases from our favorite builders, great flying venues, dangerous areas. We'll even announce VICE air combat and adventurous roleplay.

Just search for SLHPA (helicopter pilots of SL)

Roletags

Fire Chopper Pilot
Helicopter Pilot
MedEvac Pilot
SAR Chopper Pilot (SAR = Search and Rescue)
TV NEWS Pilot

Oh! And speaking of TV NEWS.

ATTENTION HELICOPTER BUILDERS! Please create a TV NEWS Helicopter for us pilot/aviation photographers in SL. The Jet Ranger would be perfect for this, just add a TV NEW Texture and mount a camera or two. Thank you!

RCAF, 2007 to 2015, RIP

To the RCAF Group...

In October 2007, the Royal Caledon Air Force began as a flying and roleplay group to help support the Connolly Aerodrome in Caledon Penzance.

We had an awesome and spectacular first two and a half years.

But as with many things in Second Life, things change. Our happy times ended and our luck ran out.

Over the months and years, SL has changed, sims have changed or disappeared, and people have changed their tastes and preferences. Many former RCAF Flyers have gone on to WW2 Combat sims or General Aviation.

Caledon has certainly changed with the tastes and time constraints of her residents. Caledon Penzance is now Caledon Pensans - and sadly, not as interesting. I even sold my last Caledon parcel (in Mayfair) last June. Although I still have a soft spot for New Babbage, Caledon and the other Steamlands don't hold the same interest for me as they once did.

The Connolly Aerodrome lasted far too many years beyond her early exciting and active days. The sim changed a while back and the new Aerodrome owner after me could no longer sustain it. The Connolly Aerodrome is now a memory. I was looking at old photographs just today.

The RCAF has outlasted both the Aerodrome and the Sim where it was first created, but it's a group that's been on life-support for many many months now. Many of us have tried to revive it here and there without success. I was hopeful for it's return to her former fun and glory, but it's time to say goodbye and farewell to our dear old friend, RCAF.

I will close the group next weekend.

Why?
1 - Caledon activities are different now. Unlike previous years, there's very little resident interest in aviation.
2 - Caledon itself is no longer a safe fly zone. Prim-full parcels make flying very difficult.
3 - Most of the aviation fun is outside of Steampunk-ish areas. General Aviation, WW1 and 2 combat, Modern warfare. It's a Big Grid and it seems many are flocking to Blake Sea and other destinations.
4 - For some, SL doesn't run well enough on their current computers for a fun flying experience.
5 - Plus, it's good to free up a Group Slot for something else of greater value.

Many of us are still involved in SL Aviation here and there and a few of us can be found flying over Blake Sea.

Some fly/roleplay in WW2 sims, Dogs On the Run (DOR), and various other aviation-friendly spots.

I don't like doing this. It's a difficult decision and did not come easy. We've all said goodbye to favorite places, groups, and friends in SL before. Like Real Life, LOSS is real here too. Even for "mostly-immersionist" SL people like me.

I owe many thanks to those who helped make RCAF and Connolly Aerodrome a fun, exciting, and adventurous group and destination.

One day perhaps, we'll have ourselves an RCAF Museum.

Until then, always say hello, continue your "altitude with attitude" - Talk like a pirate pilot, fly, drink, dance, and as always - clear skies my friends!
