Visit to Cape Messmer

Two best friends in Caledon are also my Air Chief Marshals. Sin Trenton and Phineas Messmer are two men I rely on to keep an eye on the Airfield and Personnel while I'm offGrid. On Christmas Eve I had the opportunity to visit Professor Messmer at his lab, known as Cape Messmer in Caledon Morgaine. Here we are discussing subjects of interest to the Royal Caledon Air Force and the Caledon Aether-Nautical Society.

The Professor and Miss Laval (who is also Squadron Leader of "The Screamin' Tinies" have done outstanding work creating this new launch facility and I look forward to more from them.

And may I add one more thing about Professor Messmer....Eye Candy!

The New Caledon Train!

Mr Barney Boomslang invited several of us to take part in a test of the new Caledon Train. Unfortunately my difference engine malfunctioned just as we turned the corner at my Aerodrome in Penzance. But I loved the ride and it is a magnificent piece of engineering. My laggy snapshots do not do it justice.

Just how hard can this be to make the number larger? It was made larger a while back and the Earth did continue to revolve around the Sun....."

All I want for Christmas are my 2 new Jetpacks!

Photographs show me at skybox altitude with the Terra Infinity jetpack and festive red Christmas dress...

I recently read a post from Phineas Messmer and a comment from Diamanda Gustafson, two trusted members of the Royal Caledon Air Force. The post touched on one of my favorite subjects. Jetpacks!

After a briefing at RCAF Penzance Airfield with AirChief Marshal Sin Trenton, I was off to make a shopping spree at Abbott's Aerodrome where I purchased 2 smashing new Jetpacks for my inventory. The Infinity and the Rocketeer. As outlined in Professor Messmer's Post Comments, I was able to achieve a rapid sim cross with the Infinity Jetpack, flying from the Babbage Canals Hub to Dr Rafael Fabre's Quarterdeck in Port Babbage in just a few seconds.

On my return to Penzance, I tested the Infinity Jetpack again, this time flying straight up, beyond 10,000 meters! ACM Trenton contacted me by wireless to report I seemed to be offworld by all his measuring devices. My jetpack and Flight Feather indicated the same altitude...12,017 meters. I then began my descent to the ground and for 6000 meters, I turned off the Jetpack and went into freefall. I Re-started the jetpack once again when the altimeter read below 2000 meters. A most exhilarating morning indeed!

I am now convinced of the value of these devices and will begin the formation of a rapid-deployment Jetpack Squadron for the RCAF.

Sunday's SL Bloggers Party and a visit to Podcaster Island

(From Twitter)....visiting Podcaster Island...Of course the big red building is Codie's! Hah! :from Podcaster Island [43,207,23] in SL

Unfortunately the weather (LAG) was not cooperative during my Second Life Bloggers / Royal Caledon Air Force / Christmas 1944 themed Big Band Party. But I shall feature a few of what others posted on The Connolly Telegraph. Special thanks to dinee Ghia and CodeBastard Redgrave for the lovely gifts they gave me, as well as to Radio Riel who provided the music for the occasion and Her Grace Gabrielle Riel (DJ) and Lady Whoop-Ass/Flight LT Diamanda "Cuckoo" Gustafson (Host) for helping me during the evening. It was great fun, indeed!

I have no plans at the moment for the next Second Life Bloggers Party. I'll be taking a break from all that in January. The earliest plans for the next one would be February and I will of course, keep you posted here, Pownce, Twitter, the SLBloggers Google Group, etc, etc.....

Today I made a brief lag-filled visit to Podcaster Island. I didn't get to see very much of it. I'll have to return and explore another time.

Combining Snapshots with my Twitterings

I'm trying something new today. I'm combining my Tweets on Twitter with snapshots from my wanderings...

Investigating UFO sighting over Mayfair :from Caledon Mayfair [185,122,96] in SL.

UFOs Identified....One WhirlyMachine called a helicopter (a Friendly), and one green Dragon (not so friendly)

Checking the Cape Messmer moonscape skybox by Eladrienne Laval :from Caledon Morgaine [253,50,526] in SL

Many new AO HUDs. Yay! :from Kedai [15,211,23] in SL

This worked out very well for me. I was able to piece together my time in SL in a more chronological way than I've done before - using Twitter as a guide for arranging my photographs. The text is already written with just a little editing. Great method of blogging for those of us with very little time. I Twittered inworld using Kos Farina's TwitterHUD, a free extra gadget when you buy his TwitterSCREEN.

Connolly Aerodrome Expansion

A second Connolly Aerodrome will be built on my property in the upcoming Steelhead Harborside as soon as the new sim is ready for residents.

Ack!....You Frakking Meme-Tag Bastards!

I've been tagged thrice now. I suppose it's time to buckle under the peer pressure.

*shakes fist at Ryker Beck, HawksRock, and Lord Primbroke Edward Pearse*

The rules of tagging are simple, and as follows.
(1) Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
(2) People who are tagged need to write a post on their own blog (about their eight things) and post these rules.
(3) At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
(4) Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog

I shall indulge rules 1 and 2, but will not tag others. As is the case with any horrible influenza, this viral meme must run it's course and die at some point in order to save us all in the SL Blogosphere. Any tagging on my part would only add a double or triple tag upon another SL Blogger.

Besides, this brings me to random fact number one....

1) I'm notorious for procrastination. Unless I'm deeply focused on something or other - an item/task may be lost on a backburner for a while. Like responding to dreaded viral tags such as "8 Random Facts" for instance....

2) I have a duel nature of being both Obsessive Compulsive about subjects I love/like and also suffer Attention Deficit Disorder (ooooo shiny).....where was I?

3) I'm as fanatical about lighthouses in RL as I am in SL. SL has offered me a chance to have my own. OMG how cool!....My RL apartment is decorated with the Coastal/Nautical theme and lighthouses are everywhere. Even my shower curtain has a lighthouse motif.

4) Zabrina McMahon is my evil alt! Evil I tell you! Eeeeeeevvvvviiiiiillllllll!

5) I really do love sailing in RL, and would love to fly if I had the funds and time to learn. Yay for SL where I can indulge both!

6) In RL I am 5'2, thin, have dark hair, am hearing impaired, now work as a therapist for persons coping with new disabilities, am happy for Zoe's gravity defying large breasts but glad I don't have them in RL (Can only imagine the back pain I'd have!) and would love to be as tall as she is...

7) I had one SL account prior to Zoe Connolly. I remember her name was Chloe but cannot recall the last name and only signed in a few times. I lost all other info about her. Zoe was created a few weeks later, but did not become active until I was home sick for a week. In Late January/early February 2007 I had nothing to do but nurse myself back to health and play inworld. The rest as they say, is history. I was hooked, and thus a girl's obsession and sleeplessness began.

8) In RL I am very political and spiritual. I do not discuss such things inworld with anyone but a few very very close friends. Besides SL, Politics is my other obsession and in the past I've worked as a paid staffer on a few campaigns.

General Airfield News....

SkyPirates of Penzance (SkyPoP) is a group for civilian aviation enthusiasts of Caledon as well as fellow flyers in all Victorian Steampunk nations. Our base of operations is The Connolly Airfield/Aerodrome in Caledon Penzance. SkyPirates of Penzance (SkyPoP) is not necessarily a pirates group, but is most definitely a group for flying, socializing, and fun!

Caledon Morgaine has arrived and is now under construction. Please be mindful of - and courteous to - the terraforming crew as they go about the business of developing our next Caledon Region. Do try to avoid flying into them, landing on top of them, or otherwise distracting them too much. And heavens! No Bombing practice or dogfights whilst crews are working!

With the impending opening of Morgaine by Guvnah Desmond Shang, our own Professor Phineas Messmer (RCAF Air Chief Marshal and Aethernautical Society Projects Director) will begin building his launchpad and Lab for Cape Messmer, which will become part of the Connolly-Tombola Aerodrome Complex, and be our first step-stone into Aether-Space.

Additional Notes....

Please be courteous and keep the runway clear of debris during and after use. If you encounter any unresolvable issues, do contact me by Aether-Messenger Device.

Ranks used by The Royal Caledon Air Force are loosely based upon the UK RAF rank system as outlined in the following link to NATO Air Forces on Wikipedia

Flight Tests of the New RCAF Boojum Bomber

A few select pilots of the Royal Caledon Air Force were given a copy of the new Boojum Bomber for Flight Tests and Evaluations by Caledon Scientist Denver Hax.

I managed a good flight over Penzance, Morgaine, Murdann, and Mayfair. However the landing was not as I planned. I lost altitude too fast ((and ran out of time to stay inworld)) but I managed a reasonable emergency landing at my Park in Mayfair.

All in all a successful flight and I was able to walk away from the landing. Always a plus!

A special thank you to Denver Hax from all of us in The Royal Caledon Air Force! Thanks for keeping our brave pilots in the skies!

The more I explore.....

I've noticed something over the last few weeks....

The more I explore various places on the grid....The more I settle into Victorian Steampunk.

Oh sure! I still get out there, but I don't stay long. I'm at home in Steampunk.

But I'll still need to venture out on occasion, if only to use my vast modern-day wardrobe.

Expansion of Connolly Empire - (because I love lists)

3 parcels in Caledon, 2 in Steelhead Harborside.

The 2 parcels in Harborside:
I'm considering these adjacent parcels as a possible site for The Connolly Telegraph. Once I see the plots I'll determine their best use.

Connolly Lighthouse in Caledon Regency:
Lately I've been using this as a workshop. I'm considering a living quarters on the second floor. My plans are on hold until the use of Steelhead Harborside plots can be determined...

Connolly Airfield/Aerodrome in Caledon Penzance:
My pride and joy! This is a real labor of love! I'm delighted to see the same faces using it again and again. It would seem the same people who enjoy sailing also like to fly.

Connolly Park in Caledon Mayfair:
The site of my second lighthouse, previously seen at my former land in Antiquity Cove. My park is at the NW corner of Mayfair, adjacent to my Airfield in Penzance. This will be designed as an outdoor venue and in my mind, a virtual tribute to my parents and their favorite interests (Father=Gardens, Mother=Music).

...and finally...unless a Duchy in Caledon becomes available...this is all I can handle....whew!

Royal Caledon Air Force News for November 13th

Recently, I gave RCAF Wing Commander Phineas Messmer authority to build a fleet of rockets for the Air Force. I've also given him permission to create a new organisation dedicated to the exploration of aether-space.

Our first mission will be a Journey to the Moon with a safe return to Caledon.

We intend to open diplomatic and trade relations with the Lunarians of the Moon before Antiquity and New Babbage make their first contact.

Professor Messmer will create a unique program replete with rocket pilot training that will give these special flyers the skills they need for a challenging and
adventurous Moon-Flight.

Below are photographs of my tour and inspection of Professor Messmer's Rocket Production Facility in Caledon Penzance.

No these are not giant pencils!

"Cenotaph Rebuilt In Second Life®

For the second time in its history, the Cenotaph has been rebuilt. The first was in 1920, when the plaster-and-wood Cenotaph hastily erected a year earlier was replaced with the existing Portland stone version familiar to millions.

And now, the Cenotaph has been rebuilt in the virtual world of Second Life. An exact replica of the structure designed by Sir Edwin Luytens for ceremonial use in Whitehall, the virtual Cenotaph is surrounded by a field of poppies representing the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces from World War One to the present day....."

The Connolly Aerodrome in Caledon Penzance

Miss Virrginia Tombola and I now own 2 parcels south of the Penzance Mountain that overlook Mayfair. Here we plan to build an aerodrome and pilots lounge area for the enjoyment of aviation enthusiasts throughout Caledon. We also invite our friends in other Victorian Districts such as New Babbage and Antiquity. The Connolly Aerodrome is also headquarters for the new Royal Caledon Air Force (RCAF).

Squadron Leader Moyer lands a little too close for comfort, but is doing extremely well on his first day of flight training aboard his Nieuport 17 biplane.

Inspecting my parcel in Caledon Penzance

These snapshots were taken less than 12 hours prior to the official opening by Guv'nah Desmond Shang....

Decisions, decisions...Part 2

SL News regarding the Second Life Bloggers group: I'll remain your leader. I decided to stay after 7 people consulted with me privately. Special Thanks to those who IMed me in the final hours before I was to transfer power. Second Life BloggerCon 2008 has been shelved indefinitely. I may or may not proceed with BloggerCon. It all depends on venue offers.

Our Next Blogger Party is Saturday November 10th from 2 PM to 5 PM on Tribute Island. Radio Riel of Caledon fame will be spinning the tracks. This is short notice and no time for a vote among different themes, so it will be a "come as you are, come as you wanna be" party.

I'll host the December party at my place in Caledon Penzance known as the Connolly Aerodrome. Sunday December 16th from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM SLT. Radio Riel will also be spinning tracks there for a special Christmas 1944 theme.

SL News regarding my new parcel in Caledon Penzance. This time I'm building an Aerodrome and organizing the Royal Caledon Air Force.

Having new land in Caledon is just too much fun! More setup and tweaking later. I still want to add an observation tower if I can. But my goal is to keep the build prim counts low so we have better flights of high-prim aircraft.

Decisions, decisions...

My SL News: My time is so limited....I have to make difficult choices on what I do in SL and what brings me the most joy.

As many of you know, I love Victorian Steampunk sims such as Caledon, New Babbage, Antiquity and Steelhead City. My involvement in Steampunk has grown at a tremendous rate.

I also love the Battlestar Pacifica sim known as BSG47. My involvement there is growing over time as I get to know more of my fellow roleplayers. A few people I met there have given me a position in IPX and the upcoming Babylon 5 sim. I've been offered a few opportunities I have yet to decide on..... like the possibility of a Duchy sim in Antiquity.

I've developed a love for sailing and flying in Caledon and Antiquity.

Well...I've made the decision now. One I've been thinking of for many months. When I woke up this morning I had the answer to my time management issues.....I've decided to leave several great groups I've created, so this is a painful one....like letting go of your child in a way, seeing her off on her first day of school. Painful, scary, and hoping for the very best for your little girl.

I'll be leaving 3 groups....

1) Girls and Guns
2) Second Life Bloggers
3) Second Life BloggerCon

I'll leave as soon as leadership is filled and transfer of powers are completed.

This decision does NOT come easy, but it *is* a necessary one in order for me to preserve my health, sanity, and happiness in SL.

"Well, I lucked out a bit and peeked in on the state of the OnRez viewer about a minute after it went live. It takes about as long to download as the regular viewer (about a minute and a half) being similarly sized (not like LoTRO's 900MB update today).

First impressions? Nothing is where my fingers expect it to be, and my visible view of the world is a bit reduced. Second impressions? I rather like it. The location bar (and embedded browser) can be hidden or revealed at the touch of a button (though the much larger new Linden Dollar balance display remains onscreen at all times)....."

Wrath Paine vs. Second Life: Wrath Paine vs. The Office

Wrath Paine vs. Second Life: Wrath Paine vs. The Office:

"One of the things that diminishes my time in SL is watching television. Admittedly, it's mostly crappy reality tv shows that I'm addicted to, but critically acclaimed series, as well. Such as The Office on NBC. I initially got interested in the show from watching the original BBC version and can remember I was none too excited to hear that there was going to be an Americanized version of the programme, but since the show has been on the air here, it's better than nothing, especially since the UK version completed its run long ago..."

Public Service Announcement: Internet Stalking « Shopping Cart Disco

"It seems there’s been a rash of people that think it’s funny in Second Life to join public groups you belong in, even if they have no interest. They talk to your friends, check your profile and check out your picks constantly. They might even know what new groups you belong in, inside of a five minute span.

It’s disturbing. It’s extremely creepy. Some of them have even taken it out of world, onto their blogs or Flickr pools where they blather on and on about said stalkee of choice...."

An Engine Fit For My Proceeding · The Conclusion of Voices?

An Engine Fit For My Proceeding · The Conclusion of Voices?

"I was recently considering the matter of Otherworldly Voices. There was an immense kerfuffle about the introduction of Voices to the Grid - admittedly, there is an immense kerfuffle about any introduction or removal of anything whatsoever, but in this case it was a kerfuffle promulgated by many Leading Thinkers and Commentators, and also myself.
Some predicted that the presence of Voices would lead to the elimination of “Immersionists”, dinosaurs - all New Residents would expect Voices and would relegate the silent to the dusty library corridors to which they properly belong and where they can say “shhh” to each other in private. There was the prediction that Voices would cause awful discrimination between those wishing to use them and those not, and huge social divides would occur. Would shopkeepers be required to have Voices on their lands or face bankruptcy? How would facilities for New Residents cope with the flood of New Residents wishing to send Voices from outside?
Some months have now gone by, a reasonable period of time I feel, the kerfuffle has been de-fluffled and, I must say, the overwhelming attitude that I perceive to the matter is, well, neutrality, if not boredom. I am not a particular fan of the presence of Voices, I consider it an irritating intrusion and furthermore it does not agree with the Hardware of my own Engine, and I was concerned as to possible implications but really - I have not encountered a single person even suggesting that I send Voices, and while I did see a few people keen to experiment (and all power to the experimenters, say I) now it is all old hat.
In short, nothing much appears to have changed...."

"Long ago, I started storing notecards I was often referring to, and textures like sailing race courses, in a prim that I textured like a notebook. Next step was to make a prim-version of the notebook, with proper leather and paper textures.
Then came the open version, which I also added some textures to the pages.. and some functions.. animation of the open notebook, while holding it, then some more functions.

However, as you well know, not all places allow you to rezz things, so where to keep those notes handy? The answer was obvious, of course, on the HUD.
So the HUD version of the notebook was born as well...."

RL is kicking my ass!

I'll be back for longer periods of time ((other than responding to messages)) as soon as I can.

Right now I need to concentrate on sleep and work....and sleep.

Did I mention sleep?

Zabrina McMahon......Cylon!

Is she a Cylon or a human sympathizer? I really cannot say...

I've come to realize...I don't know my sister at all. I fear there is no turning back for her....and one day I shall face her in battle where I must destroy her, or she will surely destroy the world!

((@ the BSG47 sim in Second Life you can be a Cylon, a Civilian in the Colonial Fleet, or have a position in the Colonial Military. If you love Battlestar Galactica, you'll love Battlestar Pacifica))

A warning to all in regards my half-sister Zabrina

I was hoping to avoid this announcement, but alas...it is now unavoidable.

My younger half-sister Zabrina McMahon has taken a decidedly dark-hearted view of humanity and seems bent on World Domination.

Several weeks ago whilst conducting laboratory experiments to create a doorway between universes, Zabrina was injured in an explosion. I rushed to her aid and took her to the best doctors in Caledon.

Very recently she has emerged from her convalescence and is back amongst the living. Although her body is healed, her mind has been tainted somehow....The good girl I knew is gone.

Zabrina is now....quite evil....

In my Caledon Regency lighthouse I've discovered scribblings of notes and diagrams for various schemes and nefarious plans hidden behind a bookcase. They all involve the overthrow of several governments...Most notably Antiquity, Caledon, and New Babbage. All are penned in her handwriting.

At times she will mumble or sometimes loudly declare...

"I'll show them, I'll show them all"
"The grid is mine! All mine!"
"The spirit of Valedon lives within me!"

I'm not quite sure why she mispronounced Caledon - calling it Valedon - Zabrina was in a drug-induced sleep when she made that last reference.

In light of her recent behaviour and with the Caledon Courts behind my decision, I've severely restricted her allowance from the Connolly-McMahon family fortune. I'm sure this restriction will cause her to mount some other tirade of bile against me personally, but I am convinced that it is absolutely necessary for the long-term security of our homeland.

Lessons learned from watching Law & Order SVU Episode AVATAR

This episode brought up the ageplay issue again...It was presented in usual creepy L&O:SVU fashion.

So here are the lessons I've learned from watching the episode titled "Avatar"

1) All you virtual worlders are perverts! Perverts!....The word "Perverts" repeated several times in the episode. Ya got that, pervert?

2) OMG! Wait!... According to the episode...I'm a nerdy, geeky, anti-social, pervert too!

3) Virtual World owners have British Accents.....Ooooooo!

4) Never visit secluded cabins (that probably eliminates half of SL), BDSM dungeons were not mentioned....huh, so dungeons must be okay, then.

5) Beware of obsessive old men with pig-tail fetishes.

6) And here's the big one....what happens in virtual worlds should stay in virtual worlds. I'm not clear on how creepy old guy obtained RL info on pig-tail avatar girl named "Vixy Something-or-other" (scratches head), maybe I was getting coffee when that was shown/explained.

And so begins my very first TV/DVD Commentary. More to come I'm sure!
