"Rain of Hate" 20 July 2008

Once again, my friend GoSpeed Racer invited me to the Desperado sim to witness another Eshi Otawara build. This time Eshi built a sobering and tragic look at hateful and spirit-killing speech from family and its deleterious effect on identity.

A call it "Rain of Hate" because while staring up into a cloud-like form of text for more than 15 minutes, it reminded me of standing in a cold rain.

As I raised the camera higher, the text merged into a tornado-like storm. Eventually I broke free of the hate-swarm and looked toward the sun and sky.

The Starship Insatiable

Captain's Log Supplemental: Captain Zoe Connolly of the USS Insatiable reporting....We're in stationary orbit above the nation of Caledon. Per Prime Directive policy, we're making minimal visits in proper costume and appropriate character so as not to interfere with the planets parallel Earth historical development.

We suspect that a book or series of books was left here decades ago by the Starship Kerfuffle. Somehow the very imitative people of Caledon, New Babbage, and Antiquity have adopted a "steampunk" lifestyle based on items left behind by the Kerfuffle's crew.

As per Starfleet Orders, The Insatiable has been sent to investigate and assess any damage.

Greatest Air Battles (PART 4 OF 10)

Zoe's Lively look at Lively: Virtual Worlds News: Feature: Lively - Google's Contribution to the 3D Social Web?

I've had a makeover!

Now listen folks! I know it's a bit klunky in spots, some places are laggy, half the avatars are ugly, activities are limited, there's no gridwide Google Lively (GL) and there's alot to be desired as far as avatar and camera movements, but hey...they had to start somewhere.

There will be changes coming... you can count on it.

I've also redecorated an older blog... I'm now having a go with Zoe's Lively look at Lively. I describe it this way: "A Second Life® Avatar walks through the looking glass into the parallel dimension known as.... Google Lively."

I consider myself to be downright evangelical about virtual worlds. I'll use this revamped blog to gather posts about GL and share my inworld videos and snapshots.

You may be asking: "Zoe, are you leaving SL?"

Oh hell no! I'm not leaving SL, nor do I think GL will replace SL. What I do see is some potential for introducing virtual worlds (VW) to a wider audience. I think this is good for all of us who are advocates for 3D VWs. Think of GL as a free training ground for those curious social networkers out there. Where the user goes next is the big question. Do they leave VWs forever? Do they stay happily and mingle within GL and never venture further? Do they "graduate" and join us in SL? I can't answer these questions, but I feel it in my pixelated bones.... There will be many who will come to SL and they are another key to our growth.

Google has impact on VWs! It struck me today... my Google Earth and Lively videos on YouTube get more views than my SL videos. My latest Lively video received 617 views in less than 24 hours as of this post. It took my SL video 7 months to reach slightly more than half that number at 318! Holy Nekos!

The Linden Lab Room in Google Lively

(GoogleLively) alternate Zoe meets others!

I wanted to interact with other avatars, so I found a coffeehouse within the GoogleLively room directory and decided to pay a visit. Right away I received hugs and started a short chat with a gentleman who later picked fights with other males. I gave them a shrug and left, looking for the nearest gunstore. Wait! No guns or airplanes! D'oh!

Lively by Google

The folks at Google wrote the following: "Lively by Google is a new product available in Google Labs. Create an avatar and chat with your friends in rooms you design...."

One thing I noticed about Lively I really like: Even though the avatars are far more "cartoonish" looking than some in SecondLife, the standard avatar gestures in GoogleLively seem more natural. I hope to have some video illustrating this soon.

My first test video inside the virtual world of Google Lively. This is my favorite female avatar of the 3 offered.

The Lively versions of Zoe Connolly

Tuesday evening I played with Google's Lively 3D Virtual World, using 3 of the female avatars currently available. I may switch between two favorites here...

This one I like! It's a variation on the Lively Vanessa Avatar....

I like this one too! Here I am in the Lively Heather Avatar...

Meh...The Jane Doe Avatar doesn't do it for me...

Okay! Back to the Vanessa Avatar!

RCAF Physical Training

There are many mad scientists, super villains, and assorted minions in and around Caledon, her allies as well as her enemies.

One must always be ready for action and in top physical condition for any developing crisis. I intend to lead my pilots by setting a good example of such conditioning.

(The animations are from the "Hero" set of 19 at Sine Wave. Each animation is L$100, the full pack of 19 is L$1520. When I returned to the aerodrome I placed all 19 into the free Sine Wave HUD and renamed it "Hero" so I could do a quick search of it in my ever-growing and disorganized inventory.)

"Patty Wagstaff (née Patricia Rosalie Kearns Combs) (born September 11, 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri) is an aerobatic pilot from the United States. Wagstaff traveled all over the world as a child: her father was a pilot for Japan Airlines, and Wagstaff would travel to Southeast Asia, Australia and Alaska to prepare for her own career as a pilot. Her first lesson was on a Cessna 185; since then, she has earned licenses to fly multiple aircraft, including helicopters. Her sister, Toni, is a pilot for Continental Airlines.

In 1985, Wagstaff qualified for the US Aerobatic Team and competed until 1996. She was the top U.S. medal winner, winning gold, silver and bronze medals in international competition for several years. In 1987, she earned the Rolly Cole memorial award for her contributions to the aerobatic sports, and in 1991, she won her first of three US National Aerobatic Championships. In 1991, Western Flyer's Magazine readers chose her as their favorite pilot. She was the International aerobatic champion in 1993. 1994, the year in which her Goodrich-sponsored Extra 260 airplane was put on display next to Amelia Earhart's Lockheed Vega at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum.

From 1988 to 1994, she won the Betty Skelton First Lady of Aerobatics award six times in a row...."

Valerie Bertinelli portrays Florence "Pancho" Barnes

"A 1988 made for TV movie in which Valerie Bertinelli portrays Florence Pancho Barnes, a bored socialite who decides to learn to fly. After receiving her pilot's license, even though her ambitions get in the way of her love life, she becomes a stunt pilot, barnstormer, and even forced Howard Hughes to change his mind about unions.

Her career spanned such varied activities as racing against Amelia Earhart and training army pilots. Fine portrayal of one of the more interesting of the independent women from the 1920s. ~ Tana Hobart, All Movie Guide."
